And you can do it as a daycation or packages because they’ve got a full service spa there as well, including a Himalayan salt room. Ooh, and you can go for as low as $209 a night, which gets you access to the oasis and the pools and the hot springs. And you can have a balcony room with great sunset views if you want to go right now. This is a great place to go for adults. “This little cafe is located inside Azure Palm Hot Springs Resort, and offers a myriad of healthy foods and drinks. While I’m usually one to agree that healthy is just code for not very good, that isn’t the case here. The food — sandwiches, pizzas, salad, snacks and entree bowls — is delicious and the cafe offers the relaxing desert resort atmosphere that most people visiting the Greater Palm Springs area are looking for. Options for coffee in the west Coachella Valley can be surprisingly lacking if you’re not a fan of chains, but Azure Palm Cafe is one of the few independent cafes that knows how to make decent coffee. They also offer tea, fresh juice and alcohol. “Later, at Azure Palm Hot Springs Resort, which literally rests on Miracle Hill — a tiny, six-block enclave of abundantly rich hot spring waters — I find yet another desert oasis. The region’s hottest mineral waters come from Miracle Hill; the waters at Azure Palm emerge at an amazing 174-degrees Fahrenheit and must actually be cooled prior to soaking. While the outdoor, mineral swimming pool here is the largest in Southern California, I find my solace in the five small (yes, I try them all) oasis tubs overlooking the desert. Ranging in temperatures of 101 to 104 degrees, the tubs come with names like Luna, Larissa, and Mirage. I tuck into the hotel (in a spa suite) for one night, and savor the tranquility of walking (after day-spa hours), in robe and sandals to soak all alone under the desert stars. Early morning, I slip back into the hot steamy waters loaded with sulfate, magnesium, potassium, silica, sodium, copper, lithium, magnesium, and zinc.“

IT’S THE WATER: The Spas of Desert Hot Springs are About to Put it Back on the Map

“Azure Palm’s hot springs measure at a scalding 174 degrees, making it necessary to cool the water before it flows into the resort’s pools. The water has a unique texture — it feels silky on the skin. Also, there’s no smell; the water is odorless. Most natural hot springs I’ve visited in the world have distinct odors, usually from a high sulfur content. But Miracle Hill’s water is so hot it actually boils away the sulfur smell.

Why, then, is taking an extremely hot bath on Miracle Hill so good for you? The answer is in the unique mineral content. Azure Palm’s website lists the principal minerals as sodium chloride, sulfur, bicarbonate, magnesium, sodium, potassium, silica, boron, calcium, and iron. Not listed on the site is lithium, a mineral that is used to treat manic and bipolar episodes. Some of the benefit of the minerals include blood building (iron), hormone regulation (boron), digestion and metabolism balance (bicarbonate), and protection against environmental toxins (sulfur). Magnesium is thought to “play a role in over 300 chemical reactions in the body, and sodium chloride helps regulate the flow of fluids in and out of body cells” according to the website.”
